Well, I’m going to fly home for Thanksgiving and thought it would be best to leave Josie, my cat, at a kennel while I’m gone, since my neighbors are practically never home and I can’t afford to bring her with me. This means that she needs to get caught up on her shots, so I made an appointment to do just that today. We got to the vet’s with little fuss, but once she got inside the examination room, she pretty much freaked out. My old vet let me hold her while giving her shots and the like, and that worked out well enough. I tried to do the same here, but the vet told me to leave it to them. This one didn’t handle her well at all. The assistant put on these huge yellow and black rubber gloves that certainly would have freaked me out if I were a cat, much less an already scared cat. She then proceeded to try to cover Josie with a huge towel, which would have worked out well enough if she hadn’t jumped, pulled back her hands and yelled a bit every time the cat hissed or took a swipe at her. She even tried to hold her down, and from the yowls, it sounded like she was hurt. The poor thing even pooped herself. After about five minutes of this, they gave up and told me to make another appointment for Thursday, and gave me a tranquilizer to give her before coming in for the appointment. If things go like they did today on Thursday, I’m going to switch vets. Josie was scared at the old vet’s office too, but it never got this bad because they let me hold her myself instead of scaring her more with rubber gloves and towels.
