All the Pretty Words

I love spring! Today was the first day that really felt like it. On my trip to class this morning, I saw the bicycle dude, who wears his fancy helmet and bicycling outfit and rides his bike, complete with an orange flag on a really tall pole, eastbound on the shoulder of the westbound lanes of the highway (don’t worry, the shoulders are really wide). As far as I know, he does this every day that the weather permits, starting in the spring and going to the fall. Seeing him for the first time made it feel like it was then officially spring. I walked to my first class, noticing that the sky was absolutely clear and beautifully blue, and the temperature was a nice even 70 F or so. Gorgeous. My classes were interesting, I got a lot of things done today, and I came home to find my Cup of Robots shirt, along with a surprise gift of a Keeping It Real Frog sticker, waiting for me!

Spring is here! Whee!

We went to church this morning for Easter Sunday, then went to my brother’s house for lunch with the whole family. After that, we hid eggs for the kids and then watched them hunt them down and get all sugared up from the candy inside of the plastic ones.

However, perhaps the best part was going outside to fly a kite :). I had been trying all day to get my nieces to do it with me, but I guess since their boyfriends were there (they’re 18, 17, and 17), they were too embarrassed. I’m 21, which is old to them (they even told me so today!), so I figured that in my senility I should be allowed to do silly things. Therefore, mom and I grabbed my kite (yes, I have one, and it’s a nice one thank-you-very-much) and went outside with it. There wasn’t much of a wind, but once I realized that the house was probably blocking most of it, we headed for the alfalfa field and got it to go fairly high for quite a while. Eventually the wind died on us, but it was fun while it lasted :)

It snowed today. Snowed. On the first full day of Spring. You know, I ordered warm weather six weeks ago and I’d like to know why it hasn’t arrived yet.

So, I went to the Sears Tower and also went shopping on Michigan Avenue Friday, went to a few presentations Saturday, and flew back home Saturday night. I had fun with the shopping and stuff on Friday, but the bad thing is that I’m now quite sick. Sick enough that my workaholic, rather religious parents told me I should stay home rather than go to work or church. I wanted to get some stuff done before school tomorrow, but my body is telling me that I’m crazy and should be in bed right now, so I think I’ll head over there.

I ended up going to see Measure for Measure at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. It was a bit expensive ($48!) but it was so good! I’ve never been to any plays other than the few school plays I was in as a little kid and the one I photographed for the yearbook in high school, so the whole experience was quite nice. The theater is on the Navy Pier, so I got to see a bit of that, too. Hehe, I want to be an actress now! :D
