Well, tomorrow is my 21st birthday. I’ve written and deleted two overlong posts about people who want me to go out and get drunk on my birthday simply because it’s my 21st birthday, but I’ll spare you the reading of the rant. All I’m going to say is that I don’t have a problem with people drinking in moderation, but I don’t see the point in drinking to get drunk. In fact, I think it’s pretty stupid. I also don’t drink because I’m close to a former alcoholic and I’ve seen what has happened to that person, which is a large part of the reason I don’t drink. Maybe I am missing out on some sort of rite or passage or cultural ritual or whatever you want to call it, but I don’t really care. I don’t drink. I’m not going to drink. End of story and end of my (now short) rant.
That said, what am I going to do for my birthday? Well, my family is going to have a little party for me on Thursday night, where I’ll hopefully get some of the books and movies I want but have been too cheap (or sometimes broke) to buy. My cousin called my cell phone last night, but I had it turned off and we’re now playing phone tag, so if we manage to catch each other, we might do something this weekend. Maybe we’ll go play some pool and I’ll manage to find myself a date. That would be a nice birthday present, seeing as I haven’t had a single date for 3 months now. I’m getting bored. Anyway, going out with her is fun because she’s married, so I’m guaranteed to get all of the flirting funnelled my way :D I doubt I’ll do anything other than those two things for my birthday, although I may force myself to stop doing homework for a couple of hours one night this week and take that time to watch a movie. It may be a boring 21st birthday by some people’s standards, but I find that I really don’t care. :)
